National Water trains African Managers
(The New Vision, Friday, 12 February, 2010)

By James Odomel

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has trained Senior Officials from various Water and Sanitation Utilities across Africa.

“Designing and implementing successful utility reforms is very relevant to the prevailing circumstances where many utilities the world over are dealing with how to effectively serve their people,” Maria Mutagamba, the Water Minister, said.

She was speaking at the three - day training held at NWSC Training Centre in Bugolobi, Kampala recently.  The training aimed at Teaching Delegates how to Design and Implement successful reforms in Water Supply and Sanitation.

“The Government is supportive of such training initiatives and is always ready to lend a hand when requested as this adds to the aim of providing Water and Sanitation services to the populace,” the minister added.

William Muhairwe, the Managing Director of NWSC, appealed to participants to share what they have learnt with their line managers and staff.  “It is with a shared vision that utilities can achieve success.”  Meanwhile, NWSC is to collaborate at the utility and service level with Southern Sudan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

Muhairwe said this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Southern Sudan. “The agreement attests to the growing relations we created with our neighbours, not only in technical fields but also on the political frontiers,” he added.

“NWSC sees this as an opportunity for greater collaboration at the utility and service provision level,” Muhairwe said.
