East Africa Young Water Professionals

Introduction
The East Africa Young Water Professionals (EAYWP) is a regional forum that was established to bring together young water professionals below the age of 35 years in the East African region with the main aim of pooling competences in order to provide unified approaches towards solving the challenges faced by the water sector in the region. The EA Young Water Professionals in Uganda reports to the IWA Governing Member-Uganda that is National Water & Sewerage Corporation and comprises of members from different institutions that is Universities, Tertiary institutions, Environmental bodies, Ministry of Water & Environment and Non Governmental Bodies.

Back ground
The Young Water Professionals program is operated under the auspices of International Water Association (IWA) with objective to network, offer career development, sector support among others. The East Africa Young Water Professionals objectives  feed into the objectives set by IWA for all the Young Water Professional Networks across the globe. We therefore work towards achieving common objectives across the globe but how we achieve them is what differs because of the varying cultural beliefs and environment.

Both IWA and AfWA have recognized that, to fulfill the present and future needs of the water sector, continuous development of a workforce which is adequate in size, capable in skills and strong in leadership is required. The young water professionals’ program therefore helps to build future leaders and as such, the role of young water professionals, is high on the agenda of the activities of the two institutions.
