Jinja Area is one the operational areas of National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC). It is the second largest industrial town in Uganda and is home to Kiira and Nalubale Hydro power stations, at the source of the Nile.

The water service network has over the years expanded from the Jinja town area to the neighboring suburbs of Magamaga, Mbikko, Njeru and areas along Jinja -Kamuli and Budondo roads.

The area has piped network coverage of 432 km, sewerage network coverage 67 km and 13,665 customer accounts and 2,977 sewerage account as per November 2009.

About 15,000 m³ of water is treated per day.

Sewage treatment is done at two locations, namely Kirinya Sewage works and Kimaka Sewage works both of which are Sewage Stabilization Pond systems. The Kirinya ponds lie adjacent to the Kirinya wetland, while the Kimaka ponds discharge into the River Nile, just after the Owen falls Dam
