Ongoing Projects as of May 2025

Externally Funded Projects:

It is aimed at expanding the water and sanitation systems of Kampala Metropolitan to ensure reliable and affordable service provision up to 2040.

  • All booster station sites have been handed over to the contractor. Site clearance has commenced.
  • 2 of the 3 reservoir sites handed over to the contractor.
  • Some of the pipeline routes have been handed over to the contractor. Orders for pipes have been placed and delivery is expected in July 2025.

It is aimed at improving water supply services to the population in Isingiro District enroute Kagera – Mbarara highway.

  • Pretesting of the Water Treatment Plant is ongoing.
  • 55 Km of the 62 Km Transmission line to Mbarara completed. The delay is due to stoppage of works by the Mbarara City Council who required that the pipe be realigned out of the carriage way. Pipeline had to be redesigned.

The Project is aimed at improving water supply and sanitation services in Masaka City and the surrounding towns.

  • Works Contract signed.

This project is at feasibility and detailed design stage undertaken with grant financing from Danish Sustainable Infrastructure Finance (DSIF). It is aimed at improving the quality of life, health and economy of people in Wakiso West including part of the settlements along Kampala – Mpigi highway.

  • Tenders for Expression of interests were published.

The project is jointly implemented by NWSC and the Ministry of Water and Environment with funding from the World Bank. It is aimed at improving water supply and sanitation services in Mbale City and the neighboring towns.

  • Works in progress at Doko and Namatala ponds, IUIU ponds.
  • Pipe laying for Manafwa – Bungokho transmission mains is in progress, with 11.6 Km out of 17.8 Km laid, and Pressure testing for a section of 4.8 Km successfully done. 
  • Laying of sewer network connecting to IUIU ponds is in progress, with 2km out 11.2km laid.
  • River diversion at Namatala intake has been done, and reinforcement for the weir in place awaiting concrete casting.
  • Secured 7.4km of the Namatala pipeline corridor (60%) following payment of Project Affected Persons (PAPs).
  • Overall project progress is estimated at 27%.

The project is funded by World Bank and is aimed at improving water supply and sanitation services in the towns of Adjumani town council, Pakele, Dzaipi and Ciforo.

  • Progress estimated at 40%. 
  • Works ongoing at the Intake, Water Treatment Plant, Transmission line and construction of public sanitation facilities.

This sub-component of the IWMDP Project is aimed at restoring degraded water sources and Environmental Protection in the Areas of Mbale, Gulu, Arua and Bushenyi. 

  • Project works commenced and are ongoing for Mbale, Gulu, and Arua.
  • Bushenyi – Tender documents approved by CC and issued to prequalified firms.

Internally Funded Projects including Market Finance:

The project is aimed at improving the Soroti water production capacity from 5,000 m3/day to 10,000 m3/day. 

  • 68% progress achieved on the water pipeline works. Progress of works is slow due to cash flow challenges being experienced by the Contractor.
  • 56% progress achieved on the overall works.

The project is aimed at improving the Lira water production capacity from 10,000 m3/day to 12,500 m3/day.

  • Construction works for foundation of coagulation, flocculation and clarifiers ongoing. 
  • Progress of works is slow due to cash flow challenges being experienced by the Contractor.

The project is aimed at improving water supply for Entebbe by increasing production capacity by 30,000m3/day.

  • Detailed engineering designs ongoing.

The project is aimed at improving water supply for Kakumiro by increasing production capacity by 3,000m3/day.

  • Detailed engineering designs and land acquisition is ongoing.

The project is aimed at improving the Tororo water production capacity from 5,000 m3/day to 10,000 m3/day.

  • Detailed design finalized and draft tender document review. However, the Project was put on hold pending confirmation of funding.

The project is aimed at improving the water supply services in Moroto Area through the expansion of its water production capacity by an additional 3,000 m3/day.

  • Detailed design and tender documentation done. However, the Project was put on hold pending confirmation of funding.
