Ongoing Projects as of April 2026
Externally Funded Projects:
Kampala Water Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project (KW-LVWATSAN) Phase 2 -Network Restructuring & Rehabilitation.
Project Scope:
- Network Restructuring & Rehabilitation (60 Km of primary mains, 66 Km of secondary mains and 216 Km tertiary mains).
- Construction of 03 Reservoirs of combined storage with capacity of 21,000 m3.
- Construction of 04 Booster pumping stations.
- Implementation of a SCADA system at 8 critical stations in the distribution network.
- Installation of District Metering Areas (DMAs) and DMA feeding points of sizes DN 80mm to DN 500mm.
Project Status:
- 30% of conflicting utility services have been relocated to allow pipe laying works.
- 5km of pipes have been laid in N001 along Kira-Kasangati road.
- Foundation works at Mutungo site have been completed.
Integrated Water Management and Development Project - Mbale Water Supply and Sanitation Project
Project Scope:
- Expansion of the production capacity of Bunghoko and Manafwa Water Treatment Plants from 4,000 m3/day to 18,000 m3/day and 6,000 m3/day to 9,000 m3/day respectively.
- Laying of 85 Km of pipe network.
- Construction of a 2,000 m3 capacity reservoir.
- Rehabilitation and expansion of the sewerage system by 12 km.
Project Status:
- Roofing of all non-process structures was completed.
- Concrete works for filters, tanks and sludge drying beds were completed
- Foundation works for process structures were completed. Rebar and formworks ongoing.
- 8.3 Km of the pipe length for the Namatala – Bunghoko transmission main have been laid.
- Abstraction and treated water pumps for replacement at the existing Manafwa WTP have been finalized.
Development of WatSan Infrastructure for Mbarara, Masaka and Isingiro (Southwestern Cluster Project)
Project Scope:
- Source protection measures in Arua, Gulu, Mbale and Bushenyi areas.
Project Status:
Mbale, Gulu, and Arua
- Gulu extended for 2 months to complete pending works
- Review of completion reports on-going
Bushenyi
- Works are at 82% complete.
Southwestern Cluster Project
Package 2 – Mbarara WatSan Project:
Project Scope:
- Rehabilitation and expansion of the Ruharo Water Treatment 7,000 m3/day to 13,000 m3/day.
- Rehabilitation of the distribution network.
- Rehabilitation of the sewerage infrastructure.
- Development of a Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant.
Project Status:
- The project was put on hold due to inadequate funding.
- Additional funding amounting to 40 million Euros is being pursued from AFD through the MoFPED to bridge the funding gap. This is part of the additional financing of 150m Euros being pursued for KW-LVWATSAN and SWC Project.
Package 3 - Masaka WatSan Project:
Project Scope:
- Construction of a water supply network (25km)
- Diagnosis of the sewer system
- Rehabilitation of Bukoyolo WWTP
- Rehabilitation of Kasijagirwa WSP
- Construction of faecal sludge treatment facility in Nyendo town.
Project Status:
- Bathymetric survey was completed.
- Setting out for site offices is ongoing.
- Orders for procurement of pipes and fittings were placed.
Wakiso West WatSan Project (WWWSP)
Project Scope:
- Feasibility studies for the development of a new water treatment plant at Bwelenga on Lake Victoria.
- Primary bulk storage reservoir, associated pumping main and distribution system.
- Construction of a faecal sludge treatment plant at Kajjansi, and water supply to informal settlements in the project area.
Project Status:
- Technical proposals, received, opened and evaluated.
- Technical evaluation report cleared by CC and submitted to IFCK for No Objection.
Develop 2 Build Studies for Improvement of Feacal Sludge Management within Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area
Project Scope:
- Management of feacal sludge within the greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and focus on value addition of the treated feacal sludge, as a waste to resource for reuse.
Project Status:
- Completed the Preliminary Viability Assessment and Baseline Sludge Study. Consultancy currently on hold pending the decision of the funder on whether we should proceed or not.
Climate resilience and water infrastructure for refugees and host communities in Northern Uganda
Project Scope:
- Package 1: Water and wastewater infrastructure improvement Project.
- Package 2: Storm water management.
- Package 3: Solid waste management.
- City planning, as an overarching topic that affects all of the above.
Project Status:
- Finalize draft channeling agreement between MoFPED & NWSC. The agreement has been cleared by AG awaiting the signature.
- Issue RFP to the shortlisted bidders.

Tororo Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Upgrade of the intake infrastructure.
- Laying of a new raw water pipeline.
- Construction of clarifiers & filters.
- Upgrade of electromechanical equipment and pumping mains.
Project Status:
- Project was put on hold pending confirmation of funding.
Moroto Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Reinforced concrete intake structure on River Nadiket.
- 3,000 m3/day Conventional Water Treatment Plant.
- Treated Water Pumping Main (6.0 Km).
Project Status:
- Project was put on hold pending confirmation of funding.
Lira Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Upgrade of the intake infrastructure.
- Laying of a new raw water pipeline.
- Construction of clarifiers & filters.
- Upgrade of electromechanical equipment & pumping mains.
Project Status:
- Casting of the 1st lift of clarifier walls completed.
- Plumbing works, fabrication of the support structures of lamellar plates, gratings and handrails are ongoing, as well as drainage works.
Kanungu Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Construction of sump of about 80 m3.
- Transmission main of 6″-8” of 14 Km
- Additional Storage and balancing tank/reservoir – 300 m3
- Distribution main of 4″-6” 4 Km to supply Kabuga-Kihihi Tank
- Distribution mains of 28 km of 2”-4” 15 Km for network rationalization.
- Electromechanical components
Project Status:
- Sites handed over.
- Confirmatory route surveys commenced
- Performance guarantee and submitted by contractor.
- Contractor has set up site offices
- Mobilization of workers and equipment has commenced.
Entebbe/ Nakawuka Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Upgrade of the intake infrastructure.
- Laying of a new raw water pipeline.
- Construction of clarifiers and filters.
- Upgrade of electromechanical equipment & pumping mains.
Project Status:
- Payment for the WTP land was effected.
Kakumiro Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Upgrade of the intake infrastructure.
- Laying of a new raw water pipeline.
- Construction of clarifiers & filters.
- Upgrade of electromechanical equipment and pumping mains.
Project Status:
- Detailed designs are being finalized.
Structural Integrity Assessment for Muyenga hill and reservoirs
Project Scope:
- Geotechnical investigation, slope and structural integrity assessment, which will inform on the long-term monitoring measures.
Project Status:
- Geotechnical investigations completed and a report submitted.
- Structural integrity assessment to be completed in the next quarter.
Bukedea Water Supply Project
Project Scope:
- Upgrade of the intake infrastructure
- Laying of a new raw water pipeline
- Construction of clarifiers & filters

- Detailed designs finalized. Currently under review.
