Objective

The project is aimed at addressing Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal challenges (Industrial Area) in Kapeeka Town

Description

It will follow a phased approach.

Phase 1 entails the following;

  1. Upgrading of the Electromechanical Installations to produce 2,500m3/day
  2. Laying of bulkwater mains from Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to Industrial Park
  3. Commencement of the upgrading of the WTP to produce 7,000m3/day
  4. Ground water investigations and borehole drilling
  5. Design of Wastewater System for the Industrial Park

Phase 2 comprises the following;

  1. Completion of the Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
  2. Development of borehole system
  3. Construction of Sewerage System for the Industrial Park

Objective

The project was developed to replace the old intake for Soroti water supply system that was washed away during the October-November Teso floods of 2010.

Description

The scope of works involves;

Ø  Construction of Intake Structure comprising of inlet sump and pump room

Ø  Supply and installation of 3No. Pumps (including other electro mechanicals) delivering 288m3/h each

Ø  Installation of 125m DN 300mm delivery main

Ø  Supply and installation of standby generator

Ø  Extension of overhead power supply to the new intake plant

Ø  Construction of stabilized murram access road (100m) linking the Intake Works to Soroti Highway

Invitatiom of works contractor has been halted until new World Bank funding is confirmed.

The proposed Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP) was conceived as a follow on project to the current Water Management and Development Project (WMDP). The proposed project is consistent with the World Bank Group (WBG) Country Partnership Framework (CPF) FY16-17. The proposed project also responds to the Government of Uganda (GoU) vision of a transformed society from a peasant economy to a modern and prosperous country by 2040. The CPF is designed to contribute directly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is guided by the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on financing for development.The project is being developed jointly with the Ministry of Water and Environment with aim of ensuring improvement in water and sanitation services in selected towns. For NWSC, the beneficiary towns are; Mbale, Gulu and Adjumani-Pakele.

The scope of works involves;

Ø  Rehabilitation and improvement of the Mbale water system including water intake, water treatment plant and water distibution network in Mbale town

Ø  rehabilitation and improvement of sewerage system including sewer network and sewerage treatemnt ponds in Mbale town

Ø  Construction of Karuma-Gulu bulk water transmission mains and water distribution networks for enroute towns of Karuma, Kamdini, Minakulu, Bobi-Palenga and Koro

Ø  Construction of the Adhjumani-Pakele water system including water source, water treatment plant and wayet distribution network
